Is it worth the money?
Chances are, you will be spending more than you expect. We’ve already covered the costs associated with buying a house and you are better prepared and more aware now about what you can afford. However, you really have to take a step back and ask yourself, is this really worth it.
The woman that Frontdoor.com spoke with said,
[It’s worth it because] the appliances stay, the kitchen is remodeled and it’s a house that I won’t outgrow in a few years. -Frey
If this is the home that you plan on staying in forever then you probably can disregard some of these recommended questions, but for the rest of you, listen closely! Ask yourself:
Worth-It Checklist
- Is this what I love now? Will I love it in 5-years?
- How much work will I have to put into it to make it “perfect”?
- What are great selling points for future buyers? (what will make others want to buy the house if/when you decide to sell)
- What are great selling points for me? (what makes this house a great investment for you now)
- If you’re buying with someone else, does their checklist match yours?
If you’re more of a facts, figures, and numbers person then I encourage you to check out this article by The Nest, that discusses what actually goes into determining the worth of a home.
As always, I’m happy to answer any questions you may have realtor-related or not!
